What is Artificial Intelligence? Types of AI, its Advantages and Disadvantages

Artificial intelligence or also popularly known as AI is the knowledge provided to the machine so that it gets the ability to think in its way and does work. AI gives a machine the device ability to understand the surroundings and also gives human-like intelligence. Different types of AI are used in devices for different purposes. Reasoning, problem-solving, and generalized learning are the three main types of skills that are given to machines.

In past, we have listened in stories that the King had this type of machine that looked like humans and did human-like things, and so on. Inspired by these stories, John McCarthy in 1956AD introduced the term artificial intelligence with the help of his friends, Alan Turing, Marvin Minsky, Allen Newell, and Herbert A. Simon. People like Geoffrey Hinton, Andrew Ng, Fei-Fei Li, etc. have worked for the development of AI afterwards.

There are two types of AI:

1.Weak AI

The AI that can do only one task like bots playing chess, establishing focus while capturing videos, etc. These types of AI are also known as Narrow AI that can be found everywhere in our surroundings like C.C.T.V cameras, Alexa, etc. These types of AI are used just for one task. It works as the commands given to the device.

2.Strong AI

The AI that can do many tasks and can think, sense, understand the surroundings, is known as Strong AI. These types of AI are right now only in theories, stories, and movies, like Terminator, Avengers, etc.

AI machines are being used in different places like industries as robots, in hospitals for surgeries, restaurants etc. It has different use due to the following reasons.

Advantages of AI

There will be reduction of silly mistakes that humans make. Machines would be more efficient than humans.
The machines can work 24 hours, and 7 days without any breaks or fatigue.
The machines will be more accurate in decision-making, will be smarter and the things can be made faster and more than the humans.

The works that are difficult and dangerous can be done by AI machines.

Even though there are advantages of Artificial intelligence, there are also some disadvantages of AI.

Increased rate of unemployment as the machines are getting the work in the places of humans.
If the AI gets in the wrong hands then it can be used against humanity.
People will lose creativity and they get lazy if the machines start to do work for them.
High costs will be needed for the purchasing, repair, and maintenance of the machines.

In short, there are different uses of Artificial Intelligence in human life. We now cannot even imagine a world without AI. AI should be used in the complex things that we human cannot do or is risky. The AI should be given to the good hand from the government and the illegal trafficking of the machines should be controlled not only by the government, NGOs, and INGOs but also by the civilian. The AI should be used for good purposes only. As humans discovered fire, people thought it would be very harmful like that only we humans now think that AI is bad but there are good sides also. We need to find the good sides of AI and use it. We also need to control the bad sides of AI, so that we humans can live happily in the coming days and also develop the world.
