Leaders of various nine political parties associated with the Maoist Movement have come together and concluded that they will jointly retaliate against the activities being waged against the peace process, forming a common viewpoint. Organizing a press conference here on Sunday, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to move together towards the journey of socialism while safeguarding the existing achievements. Furthermore, the leaders of the People's War era viewed that People's War, People's Movement, Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) and constitution promulgated through the Constituent Assembly were interconnected. Hence, they maintained that those issues should not be viewed separately. The Maoist parties have been engaging in dialogues in the recent days after the war-era cases related to transitional justice were taken to the Supreme Court.
Recently, a case has been lodged at the SC regarding the political speech made by CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' in a public event few years ago. Netra Bikram Chand, the General-Secretary of Nepal Communist Party, asserted that if the leaders who struggled for the new governance system were deemed criminals, they will not tolerate it. Chand warned, "We need not to be frustrated. Currently, some agents are fueling up the fire. If we Maoists unite and if communist revolutionaries stand up in a full gusto, all conspirators will be reduced to ashes." Stating that farmers in villages were suffering due to micro-finance and industrialists were in deep soup, he expressed his concern over the ownership of country's land that is going to be with a hand of people and called for protesting such trend. He called out at those campaigning that the Constitution of 2047 BS should be reinstated. "It is nowhere to be accepted. It is not a solution. Our viewpoint is that we need to move towards scientific socialism by bringing about progressive changes."
Similarly, Baigyanik Samajwadi Party's General-Secretary Bishwa Bhakta Dulal employing an allegory of the lions said, "Although the lions wander in their own way but at the time of crisis, they come together." Dulal denounced that it was absurd that issues related to the People's War era were to be settled through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in accordance with the CPA rather than dragging them to the court one after another. Warning that the cases were being lodged against the advocates of changes by keeping them in the same basket, he viewed that the transitional time era cases should be dealt through TRC. Likewise, CPN (Maoist Centre) General-Secretary Dev Prasad Gurung blamed that the peace process could not be completed due to lack of cooperation from CPN (UML). He lamented that the Act related to TRC and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons that was tabled in the federal parliament. Also, Aam Janata Party Chairperson Prabhu Shah said that the attempts of attacks at the present executive Head of the country were at the time when he ought to deliver. If there is an attack, he said that not only Maoist party, no Nepali should keep quiet about it. CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice-Chairperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara spoke of the need to counter the tendency taking the country towards regressive forces. According to him, the struggle between progressive and regressive was becoming complex lately and warned that activities there were on the contrary to CPA were surfacing lately. He pressed for unified efforts not only from the Maoist forces but also from all stakeholders against those activities. CPN (Maoist Samajwadi) Chairperson Karnajit Budhathoki said that the attack on the Maoist meant attack on the 'Nepali People'. He said that all Maoist forces would come together and unify their parties based on the agendas. Nepal Samajwadi Party's Vice-Chairperson Hisila Yami said that an environment was enabled where all Maoist forces would stand united. Participants in today's press meet demanded that the remaining works of the peace process be completed at the earliest by formulating laws.
"The Constitution of Nepal, that acknowledges the Comprehensive Peace Accord as its integral party, has entrusted the Nepal Truth and Reconciliation Commission with the responsibility to settle the conflict-era cases. It is evident that going against this historical context and constitutional provisions would be going against the Comprehensive Peace Accord," reads the press statement issued in the press meet.
